Teamsters Local 429 is made up of nearly four thousand working men and women and is headquartered in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
Local 429 represents workers with many different occupations. Our members hail from over seventy nine employers. Representing employees from numerous industries, including County and municipal governments, dairies, food and steel warehousing, freight truck drivers, United Parcel Service (UPS), construction, vending services, beer distributors, emergency medical service groups, oil delivery, heating and air conditioning services and Prison Correctional Officers are all covered by the Local 429 umbrella.
Teamsters Local 429 negotiates over 87 contracts for current member/employees and is actively engaged in organizing non-represented area employees.
Our goals, wherever we work, are to ensure better wages, benefits and working conditions on issues like health care coverage, workplace safety and fighting discrimination. On a day-to-day basis, our principal activity is to ensure that contract terms and conditions are met and enforced.
Ancillary efforts and goals are to improve the quality of life for our members and their neighbors. We accomplish that through charitable efforts such as fundraising for the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, our Scholarship Programs, the Helping Hands Food Pantry, and support of the Pennsylvania Federation of Injured Workers which provides information and lobbies for legislation on matters that affect injured workers, along with a magnitude of other community organizations.
We provide special vacation packages, sporting event and mortgage discounts, along with other discounts for members and their families, etc.
We have a committed and dedicated staff, including five full-time business agents, two full-time officers, President and Secretary Treasurer, a Recording Secretary and 3 Trustees and an Organizer assigned to work with members and management to ensure an atmosphere of meaningful and rewarding active employment in addition to affirmative health and pension benefits for members and their families.
Local 429 values its members and conducts regularly scheduled monthly membership meetings that all members are encouraged to attend to be kept abreast on current Union affairs.
Remember, YOU are the Union. We all depend on one another. When one succeeds, we all succeed. So, please attend our meetings. Be active. Support one another. Remain positive and professional. If our foes are successful in dividing us from one another, they will win. But, if our message of solidarity rings true, we will be the winners.
In Solidarity,
Bill Shappell
